Multi Engine Rating Course

$59.95 for 4 months

Walk into the twin already knowing what’s coming. Complete multi-engine theory for Canadian pilots — systems, asymmetric thrust, engine-out procedures, V-speeds, and performance — taught by an active airline captain and Class 1 Flight Instructor. 4 months of access.

  • ✅ Scenario-based training: engine failures, takeoff planning, climb performance
  • ✅ Built for multi-engine rating and Multi-IFR candidates
  • ✅ Study anywhere, at your own pace, with instructor support

Heads up: this course is included free with the Commercial Pilot Ground School. If you’re planning to enrol in the CPL course, don’t buy this separately.

Description

Multi-Engine Ground School — Build Confidence Before You Step Into the Twin

Multi-engine training moves fast, and every hour in the aircraft is expensive. The pilots who get the most out of it arrive already understanding the theory: why the critical engine matters, what asymmetric thrust does to your rudder workload, how VMC is determined, and what your climb performance really looks like on one engine. This course gives you that foundation before you burn avgas learning it.

It was built by an active airline captain and Class 1 Flight Instructor with extensive multi-engine experience — the same theory-first approach behind our Transport Canada–accepted PPL and CPL ground schools, applied to twins. Whether you’re working toward your multi-engine rating, preparing for Multi-IFR, or building toward a professional flying career, you’ll enter the aircraft knowing what’s coming.

What You’ll Learn

  • Multi-engine systems and aerodynamics — performance, limitations, weight and balance, V-speeds, and the critical engine
  • Engine-out procedures and decision-making — identifying, verifying, and managing a failure when workload is highest
  • Scenario-based training — realistic exercises in takeoff planning, asymmetric thrust, single-engine climb performance, approach considerations, and emergency management
  • Flight training preparation — arrive ready for briefings, simulator sessions, and lessons, so your aircraft time goes toward flying, not catching up on theory

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the requirements for a multi-engine rating in Canada?

You need to hold at least a Private Pilot Licence (or CPL), meet the applicable medical requirements, and pass a multi-engine flight test with a Transport Canada–approved examiner. There is no Transport Canada written exam for the multi-engine rating — it’s proficiency-based, with no fixed minimum flight hours. That’s exactly why ground preparation matters: your rating comes down to how well you perform in the aircraft.

How long does a multi-engine rating take?

Most students need roughly 8–10 hours of dual flight training, though it varies with proficiency, weather, and aircraft availability. Some pilots complete the rating intensively in about a week; others spread it over several weeks. Strong ground knowledge is the single biggest factor within your control for keeping your hours — and your bill — at the low end.

Do I need this course if there’s no written exam?

The absence of a written exam doesn’t mean the absence of theory — it means the examiner tests your knowledge verbally and in the air, under workload. Instructors can tell within one flight which students prepared on the ground. This course exists so you’re that student.

How long do I have access?

Your enrolment includes 4 months of full course access — more than enough to prepare before and alongside your flight training. Extensions are available if you need more time.
