This kit solves that: every fundamental item for your private or recreational pilot training, assembled by flight instructors, shipped flat-rate anywhere in Canada, and $80 cheaper than buying each item separately. Despite the “ground school” name, it covers all your flying lessons too.

Choosing Your Kit: Charts Explained

Navigation charts are the one item that depends on where you fly, so we offer three configurations:

• Regular Kit — no charts included. Ideal if your flight school supplies them or you’d rather buy locally once training starts.
• Kit with VNC — adds the VFR Navigation Chart covering your region. VNCs are what you’ll use for cross-country navigation, and having one during ground school makes every navigation lesson concrete. We recommend this option for most students.
• Kit with VNC + VTA — also adds the VFR Terminal Area Chart. VTAs only exist for seven congested areas — Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Winnipeg, Calgary, Edmonton, and Ottawa. If you won’t be flying near one of these, you don’t need a VTA.

Can I customize the kit?

Yes — this is what sets our kit apart. Already own From the Ground Up? Want to upgrade the E6-B or bundle in a study guide? Contact our flight instructing team and we’ll remove, swap, add, or upgrade items to fit your training. Kits ship in Midnight Blue by default; for a pink-trim flight bag, request it in your order notes and we’ll do our best to accommodate.

What do you learn in ground school?

Private pilot ground school covers four sections: Air Law, Navigation, Meteorology, and General Knowledge. This kit contains the reference materials that ground school and your flying lessons are built on. We deliberately don’t stuff it with every product a flight school sells — start training first, then decide what extras you actually need.

Is this kit enough for the whole PPL?

For ground school and your flight lessons, yes. Closer to your written exam, most students add an exam-prep guide, and your school may require a headset and kneeboard for flying — we carry those in the Pilot Shop when you’re ready.
