Multi-Engine Ground School — FAQ
Is there a Transport Canada written exam for the multi-engine rating?
No — unlike your licence, the multi-engine rating has no separate Transport Canada written exam. The rating is earned through flight training and a flight test at your flight school. This course delivers the ground knowledge that training builds on.
Do I need my CPL before starting multi-engine training?
No. The multi-engine rating is added to a pilot licence — it can be added at the private pilot level or later. Many students complete it while working toward their CPL or IFR rating.
How long do I have access to the course?
You have 4 months of access from the date of enrolment — enough time to complete the material before starting flight training, or to work through it alongside your first twin lessons.
Is this course included in the CPL Ground School?
Yes — if you enrol in our Commercial Pilot Ground School, this entire course is included at no extra charge. Only purchase it separately if you’re not planning to take the CPL course.
Which aircraft does the course cover?
The theory applies across piston twins used in Canadian training — the Diamond DA42, Beech Duchess BE-76, Piper Seneca, and similar aircraft. Aircraft-specific procedures are covered by your flight school on the aircraft you’ll actually fly.
