Standard Rate Turn

A standard rate turn is a turn at a rate of 3° per second — the turn rate at which a full 360° circle is completed in exactly 2 minutes. Also called a rate-one turn. Standard rate turns are the reference for all IFR timed manoeuvres and are indicated by the reference marks on the turn and slip indicator.

Bank Angle for Standard Rate

Bank angle for standard rate ≈ (TAS ÷ 10) + 7°. At 90 KTAS: 16°. At 120 KTAS: 19°. At 150 KTAS: 22°. At high speeds (>200 kts), limit bank to 25–30° regardless of whether this produces a true standard rate.
