ROC-A Exam

Paying Your ROC-A Exam Fee

This fee covers your official Radio Operator’s Certificate (Aeronautical) exam with one of our ISED-accredited examiners, and the submission of your application to ISED afterward. The exam is held by video conference and takes about 30 minutes including processing time.

1. Book first. Agree on a date and time with an examiner by email. Examiner contacts are on our ROC-A exam page.
2. Pay here. Select the examiner you booked with and pay at least 24 hours before your appointment, unless you have arranged otherwise with your examiner.
3. Send your paperwork. Email your examiner the completed application form, which is page 2 of the Exam Information Sheet (PDF), dated the day of your exam. Include your ID: a provincial driver’s licence or Canadian citizenship document, or an international passport.
4. Write your exam. Log onto the video conference at your booked time. The exam is oral, closed book, 25 questions, with a 70% pass mark.
5. Receive your certificate. Your examiner submits your application, and ISED mails your ROC-A within 2 to 4 weeks. It is valid for life.

Fee policies

• Exam fees are non-refundable, including no-shows.
• A $30 fee applies if you cancel within 12 hours of your exam time and choose to reschedule.
• Exams are available in French. Tell your examiner when you book.
• You must be physically in Canada during the exam. This is ISED policy.
• Need your certificate mailed outside Canada? Do not pay on this page. Arrange payment directly with your examiner, as a small additional shipping charge applies.
