Description

ROC-A Course Online: Learn From the Examiners Who Run the Exam

Most ROC-A courses are written by people who once passed the exam. This one was created by ISED-accredited ROC-A examiner and Class 1 flight instructor Daniel Gustin, who administers it. You learn the theory the exam actually tests, through realistic radio scenarios designed to make you proficient on the frequency, not just ready for exam day.

The Radio Operator’s Certificate (Aeronautical), officially the Restricted Operator Certificate with Aeronautical Qualification, is required for anyone who transmits on aviation frequencies in Canada. This course prepares you for the official ISED examination from start to finish, and you have full access for 120 days from purchase.

What the ROC-A Course Covers

Six lessons in the order you will need them, each ending with an assessment task based on real ISED ROC-A exam questions.

  1. Introduction to the ROC-A

What the certificate is, who needs one, and how the exam works.

  2. Radio Regulations

The rules every operator is examined on, explained in plain language.

  3. Stations

Who you are talking to: towers, flight service, UNICOM, and the stations on the other end of your calls.

  4. General Procedures

The structure of proper radio work: who speaks, when, and in what format.

  5. Communicating on the Radio

Normal communications, phraseology, and the calls you will make every day, practiced through realistic scenarios.

  6. Emergency Communications

MAYDAY, PAN PAN, and the procedures that matter most when something goes wrong.

  7. Final Practice Exam

A full practice examination built from real ISED ROC-A exam questions, so exam day holds no surprises.

Reference materials are included: the ROC-A Study Guide (PDF) and the NAV CANADA VFR Phraseology Guide. We also recommend sharpening your ear on live air traffic control at liveatc.net.
