Preferred Runway

The preferred runway is a runway designated for preferential use at a specific aerodrome, typically for noise abatement, obstacle clearance, or operational efficiency reasons. Preferred runways are published in the CFS.

Noise Abatement

At many Canadian aerodromes, preferred runways steer departures and arrivals away from residential areas. ATC will normally assign the preferred runway unless wind, runway condition, or traffic flow necessitates another runway. If you need to use a different runway at a noise-sensitive aerodrome, advise ATC and follow noise abatement procedures.
