The Instructor Approach

Memorizing Answers Gets You a Pass. Understanding Gets You a Career.

You could brute-force the PSTAR by memorizing the question bank — plenty of students do. But every rule on this exam exists because it keeps you alive in the circuit, and you’ll be flying solo shortly after passing it. Memorized answers evaporate; understood rules don’t.

This course is built the way flight instructors actually teach: understand the rule, recognize how the exam asks about it, then practice until you score 90%+ consistently. Learn → reinforce → practice.

Every question is updated in accordance with Transport Canada’s current TP 11919 study and reference guide, and the sample exams mirror the structure and question styles of the real test.

And even though the course is free, you get the same flight instructor support as our paid students — if you’re stuck on a rule, ask, and a real instructor answers.

FAQ

PSTAR Exam — FAQ

How many questions are on the PSTAR exam?

The PSTAR exam is 50 multiple-choice questions, drawn from the question bank in Transport Canada’s TP 11919 study and reference guide.

What is the PSTAR pass mark?

The required pass mark is 90% — 45 of 50 questions. It’s one of the highest pass standards in your entire flight training, which is why structured preparation beats casual studying.

Can I write the PSTAR exam online?

No — the PSTAR exam must be written in person, at a flight school or a Transport Canada examination facility. You can prepare completely online with this course, then write the exam at your school.

When do I need to pass the PSTAR?

Before you fly solo. The PSTAR is required for your Student Pilot Permit, which you need before your first solo flight — most students pass it in their first weeks of training. Since this course is free and self-paced, there’s no reason not to knock it out early.

Is this PSTAR course really free?

Yes — completely free, no payment details required, including the sample exams and instructor support. It’s our way of showing you how we teach before you enrol in a full ground school course.

Is the PSTAR course included with PPL ground school?

Yes — this course is included in our Private Pilot Ground School, along with the ROC-A radio course, so one enrolment covers all three exams on the way to your licence.
