Control Area Extension
A control area extension (CAE) is an extension of a control area beyond its normal boundary, typically used to provide additional protected airspace around a terminal area or along a frequently used route. CAEs provide IFR separation in areas that would otherwise be uncontrolled, improving the safety of IFR operations in busy terminal environments.
