Reporting Point

A reporting point is a specified geographical location at which position reports are made by aircraft. Compulsory reporting points (solid triangle on IFR charts) require a position report when passing; non-compulsory points (open triangle) require a report only when requested by ATC.

Required elements: aircraft identification, position (name of the reporting point), time, altitude, IFR conditions, estimated time at the next reporting point, name of the following reporting point, and any pertinent remarks. In radar environments, position reporting is typically suspended.
