Ultrahigh Frequency
Ultrahigh Frequency (UHF) refers to the radio frequency band from 300 MHz to 3 GHz. In aviation, UHF is used for DME (962–1213 MHz), ILS glide slopes (329–335 MHz), military communications (225–400 MHz), and some transponder operations.
UHF in Civilian Aviation
Civilian pilots primarily interact with UHF through the DME system (receives on 962–1213 MHz) and the ILS glide slope. The glide slope frequency is automatically paired with the VHF localizer frequency — when you tune the localizer, the glide slope is auto-selected.
