Area Navigation (RNAV)

Area Navigation (RNAV) enables aircraft to navigate along any desired flight path rather than being restricted to routes defined by ground-based navaids. GPS/GNSS is the most common RNAV sensor in Canadian general aviation.

RNAV Approaches in Canada

RNAV (GNSS) approaches are published at thousands of Canadian aerodromes including many that previously had no instrument approach. Approach types include LNAV (lateral guidance only), LNAV/VNAV (lateral and advisory vertical), and LPV (Localizer Performance with Vertical guidance — approaching ILS CAT I minimums using SBAS).
