Air Traffic Control Unit
An air traffic control unit is a generic term for any facility providing ATC service — variously an area control centre, approach control unit, aerodrome control tower, or other designated facility. Each unit has a defined geographic area of responsibility.
Types of ATC Units in Canada
- Area Control Centres (ACC): Seven in Canada — Gander, Moncton, Montréal, Toronto, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Vancouver; handle en route IFR traffic
- Terminal Control Units (TCU): Handle arrivals and departures at major airports
- Aerodrome Control Towers: Manage surface and circuit traffic at controlled airports
