Centre

A centre is an area control centre — an ATC unit responsible for providing IFR control service within a flight information region. Canada’s seven centres are commonly referred to in radio communications as “Moncton Centre,” “Toronto Centre,” etc.

Contacting Centre

Pilots on IFR flight plans are handed from tower or terminal control to the relevant ACC sector as they climb through the transition altitude. VFR pilots flying cross-country may contact the appropriate centre to request flight following — advisory traffic information provided on a workload-permitting basis.
