Altitude Reservation
An altitude reservation (ALTRV) is airspace temporarily set aside under prescribed conditions, normally for the mass movement of aircraft or other special operations. It segregates a block of airspace to allow military exercises, formation flights, aerial refueling, space launches, or other activities requiring exclusive use.
How ALTRVs Are Published
In Canada, altitude reservations are coordinated through NAV CANADA and the military, and published as NOTAMs. They appear in the daily NOTAM system and must be checked during preflight planning — they can block preferred routes at specific altitudes and times.
