Certificate of Registration

A Certificate of Registration is the document issued by Transport Canada to identify the legal owner of an aircraft and confirm its registration on the Canadian Civil Aircraft Register. The certificate must be carried on board the aircraft at all times when operated.

Required Documents on Board

CARs require that three documents be carried on board a Canadian-registered aircraft at all times: the Certificate of Airworthiness (C of A), the Certificate of Registration, and the journey logbook. The pilot must also carry a valid pilot licence and medical certificate (where required).

Aircraft Registration Marks

Canadian civil aircraft registration marks begin with the prefix “C-” followed by four letters (e.g., C-FMXP). The registration is displayed on the aircraft fuselage and wings in accordance with CARs Part II standards for size and placement.
