Remote Communications Outlet (RCO)

A Remote Communications Outlet (RCO) is a ground-based radio installation that allows FIC or FSS specialists to communicate with aircraft from a location remote from the main facility. RCOs extend radio coverage into areas where direct radio contact with the main facility is not possible due to terrain or distance.

RCO Use

Pilots contacting FIC on an RCO frequency are connected directly to the FIC specialist, who can provide weather briefings, accept flight plan filings, relay NOTAM information, and coordinate emergency services. RCO frequencies are listed in the CFS alongside the main FIC frequencies.
