RONLY
RONLY (Receive Only) refers to a radio installation capable of receiving transmissions but not transmitting. Aircraft equipped with RONLY can hear ATC transmissions but cannot respond verbally.
RONLY Operations
If an aircraft has a failed transmitter, the pilot may continue operations using RONLY procedures. ATC will communicate by asking the aircraft to “squawk ident” to confirm receipt of transmissions. At a controlled airport, the tower will use light gun signals for aircraft that cannot transmit. The pilot should squawk 7600 to indicate radio failure.
