Airport

An airport is an aerodrome in respect of which a Canadian aviation document is in force — meaning it has been certified by Transport Canada under the Canadian Aviation Regulations. Certification requires the aerodrome to meet defined standards for runway conditions, lighting, navigation aids, rescue and firefighting capability, and wildlife management.

Airport vs. Aerodrome

An aerodrome is any landing area. An airport is one that has been formally certified. A private grass strip is an aerodrome. Toronto Pearson is an airport. The CFS indicates whether an aerodrome is certified or registered.
