Local Traffic
Local traffic refers to aircraft operating in the vicinity of an aerodrome — those in the traffic circuit, on approach, or departing — that are the immediate concern of aerodrome control. ATC uses the term “local traffic” to distinguish circuit and nearby traffic from en route traffic at greater distances.
Traffic Information Service
At uncontrolled aerodromes, pilots provide their own traffic separation by broadcasting position and intentions on the ATF or MF. At controlled airports, tower provides traffic information about known local traffic — “Traffic, Cessna on final, runway 24” — as a courtesy. Pilots must see-and-avoid regardless of whether traffic information has been provided.
